Dr Margarida Simones

Margarida is a human nurse as well as a veterinary Doctor with a special interest in Zoonoses. She has a Masters in Conservation Biology and Doctorate in Veterinary Sciences. She is currently in training in Public Health and Microbiology (EUPHEM fellow) and a resident of the European College of Veterinary Public Health.

Research projects: One Health approach to better understand Hepatitis E infection, and the development of tools to detect pan-Brucella infection (applicable both for humans and animals). She also collaborates in comparative medicine projects for the improvement of therapeutic strategies both for humans and animals. Margarida has been an active member of the Veterinarians without Borders-Portugal for more than 15 years, collaborating on projects for animal health and public health empowerment mostly in African countries.
