Impact Reports

Our 2025–26 Impact Report sets out a year of significant progress for Humanimal Trust as we work to advance One Medicine – bringing human and veterinary medicine closer together to improve health outcomes for people and animals.

Over the past year, we have strengthened collaboration across research, education, policy and public engagement. A key milestone has been the start of the pioneering Cancer Discovery Fund research project supported by £200,000 in funding from Humanimal Trust, which focuses on a rare cancer that naturally affects both humans and dogs. Public support for One Medicine has also continued to grow, with more than 25,000 people now having signed the Humanimal Trust Pledge, alongside increased engagement through education, campaigns, events and thought leadership. Our One Medicine Network evolved into a more accessible format, while almost 200 professionals have taken part in our webinar series.

The report also marks the launch of Humanimal Trust’s 2026–29 strategy and a new chapter in our work to make One Medicine the norm.

This report sets out a year of remarkable progress and transformation in its mission to advance One Medicine – a world where humans and animals benefit equally from medical progress. 

Over the past year, the Trust has launched a refreshed brand and website, celebrated its inaugural One Medicine Month and strengthened its influence across science, human and veterinary medicine, policy, and public engagement. With a growing community and an expanding network of collaborators, Humanimal Trust is rapidly becoming a driving force in uniting doctors, vets and researchers. 

Joe Bailey, CEO at Humanimal Trust, said: “This year has been about momentum. We’ve not only broadened our reach, we’ve deepened our impact. Across disciplines and sectors, we’re seeing growing recognition that One Medicine is not just a vision, but a necessity.” 

The Trust also saw a significant rise in public engagement, with more than 23,500 people signing the Humanimal Trust Pledge – a clear indication that public support for One Medicine is gaining ground.

Our 10th anniversary impact report was an opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved since Professor Noel Fitzpatrick’s gem of an idea took its first steps as Humanimal Trust in May 2014. In this report, we celebrate ten years of effort, determination, success and learning, all of which have been vital in developing our vision, growing our awareness and building a solid foundation for the future. The next ten years will be the time to innovate, the time to act, and the time to make One Medicine a reality, not just a concept.

We believe that education is the key to One Medicine. Only by learning about the similarities between humans and animals from the earliest stage, to collaboration in the most advanced science and clinical practice, will we make One Medicine a reality. For that to happen, we must ensure the best research, clinical practice and learning, benefiting both humans and animals, are funded, encouraged and promoted. 2021-22 was a time to regroup, refocus and renew our commitment.

This report describes our successes from the first seven years of the charity, as well as the things we could have done better and our targets for the future. It outlines our strategic aims for each of our five work streams (awareness, collaboration, education, research and influence), our short-term objectives for each, and the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) we use to track performance.
